Texas City Renames Major Street after Socialist

This year the San Antonio, Texas city council backed by the city mayor renamed one of its major streets in the downtown area after Cesar Chavez. For more than a century Durango street was the name of a major SA corridor running east to west in the vibrant downtown area of the city. And then the name change.

Certain San Antonio citizen groups petitioned the city council to change the name of Durango Boulevard to Cesar Chavez Boulevard. The city council listened to the pros and cons of renaming the street to include the high cost of renaming it. A vote came up and the petition to rename was passed.

Did the citizens and SA city council review a history of Cesar Chavez? Did anyone know that Chavez was a Socialist who studied under Chicago radical Saul Alinsky. Did they know that Fred Ross, who worked for Alinsky, was the principal mentor for Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. Was Cesar Chavez a Communist at heart? Did anyone know that both Ed Roybal and Cesar Chavez worked closely with a leading Los Angeles Communist Party USA member and Democratic Party activist, Bert Corona?

Apparently no one asked or no one cared. The SA mayor does lean to the left, touting Obama "green" initiatives and giving gays equal status in city government regarding benefits. But then all these issues are just the beginning of the current SA city council leftward Democratic voting trend.

By the way...The new street name signs were up within days of the council vote. Maybe the vote was a mute issue?
