Texas Schools and Money

Here in San Antonio, many school district administrators complain about the education budget or lack of it. They point fingers at Governor Rick Perry and the state legislature. They blame every politician this side of the Rio Grande River. Yet they forget to take the blame for their own inflated salaries and lack of prudent decisions.

For example, in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) someone really likes ornamental wrought iron fences! Kate Schenck Elementary school located in southeast San Antonio just had a wrought iron fence installed around the entire campus. Wrought iron fencing costs between $20 and $30 a foot to install. Chain link fencing cost under $10 per foot. Please be aware that these are very conservative figures. The school had chain link fencing before some “prudent” decision was made to install the costlier iron.

If this example runs true of other “prudent” money saving upgrades, then I think home owners who pay property taxes for this and other school districts are getting the short end of the stick! School district administrators can continue to blame our state government for funding shortfalls…but first look into your actions…good or bad?
