Among other things missed by the NYT was that Jarrett’s mother, Barbara Taylor Bowman, founded an education initiative alongside radical 60s bomber and Weather Underground co-founder Bill Ayers. It was Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn who were also known for their infamous anti-Vietnam protests and drug use.
Also, Jarrett may have been introduced to Barack Obama through her father-in-law Vernon Jarrett, a communist sympathizer who worked with Obama's mentor Frank Marshall Davis. Jarrett worked with Davis in 1940 in a Communist Party-dominated organization, the Citizen’s Committee to Aid Packing House Workers.
