USAF Spends 84K Pre-Shutdown Money

I've known first hand the waste the USAF is guilty of when buying stuff. This one case is totally ridiculous!

The Air Force contracted for an $84,380 upgrade on its ‘Exit’ signs. Those signs were for the Bowling Center, Recreation Center and other buildings on the Joint Base Charleston-Weapons Station in Goose Creek, S.C. These were environmentally friendly signs!

The money was probably from 2013 fallout funds. Toward the end of a DOD fiscal year (Oct to Sep) any funds not spent for a particular mission must be used or returned to the respective command. DOD won't keep unspent money and apply it to the next fiscal year. That make too much sense! The term I often heard was "Use It or Lose It."

Read about this case of waste at...Exit with 84K.
